ABOUT KATARI RADIANCE

A long-term family enterprise.

Katari Radiance is being developed as a modern family business platform combining entrepreneurial ownership with professional management.

Our philosophy is based on customer trust, responsible expansion, operating discipline, capital preservation, ownership of productive assets and long-term wealth creation.

We believe businesses should be built not only for the present generation, but with the strength, reputation and structure required for generations to come.

OUR LEGACY

From a cloth shop in Ludhiana to a multi-generation business journey.

The story behind Katari Radiance began decades before the name itself. It is a story of family entrepreneurship, adaptation, customer trust and the ability to evolve with changing markets.

Post-Partition Era

The Beginning — S. Sajjan Singh Katari

The family business journey began when S. Sajjan Singh Katari came to Ludhiana and established a retail cloth merchant business under the name Sajjan Singh Amolak Singh.

He introduced his nephew, S. Amolak Singh, as a partner, laying the foundation of a family enterprise built on trust, hard work and long-standing customer relationships.

In the difficult years following Partition, shortages and concerns around hoarding and black marketing led to government regulation of cloth distribution through rationing and quota systems. Sajjan Singh Amolak Singh was among the early Ludhiana cloth retailers serving customers through this regulated system.

Second Generation

S. Harcharn Singh Katari Expands the Textile Business

The business was subsequently carried forward by S. Harcharn Singh Katari, son of S. Sajjan Singh Katari, while retaining the established firm name.

He expanded beyond conventional cloth retail into trading and wholesale distribution of dress materials and fabrics sourced from mills in Bombay, including names such as Kamal, Tacfab and others.

Another major growth phase came with the introduction of Surat fabrics, including collections from names such as Prag, Prafull, Jain Uday and others.

The textile business became a recognised establishment operating from Gujjar Mal Road, Ludhiana, where it continued until 2002.

07 April 2000

The Third Generation Joins

On 7 April 2000, Kamal Deep Singh Katari joined the family business, marking the entry of the third generation.

He started a retail shop in A/C Market, Bhadaur House, Ludhiana, creating a new retail-focused direction alongside the established textile business.

2002

Complete Shift from Gujjar Mal Road to A/C Market

In 2002, the business completely shifted from Gujjar Mal Road, Ludhiana to A/C Market, Bhadaur House, Ludhiana, with retail becoming the primary focus.

This marked a decisive transition away from the traditional credit-based wholesale model toward a more organised and customer-focused retail business.

From 2005

Expansion into Organised Franchise Retail

From 2005 onwards, the family increasingly moved toward organised franchise retail and gained practical operating experience through fashion and lifestyle retail businesses associated with brands such as Liberty Shoes, DeExtase, Tag Hills and Koutons Retail India Ltd.

These years built strong experience in customer service, merchandising, retail systems, store management, team development and brand-led business models.

2012

Entry into Premium Jewellery Retail

In 2012, the family took another major step by entering premium jewellery retail through Tanishq.

The experience built over generations in customer relationships and retail operations was combined with the systems, standards and discipline required for organised jewellery retail.

The jewellery business later expanded with a second outlet in Nawanshahr, Punjab.

Since 2015

Diversification into Commercial Real Estate

From 2015 onwards, the family began systematically investing in commercial real estate as a long-term diversification strategy.

The objective was to build a portfolio of income-generating retail and commercial properties capable of creating stable passive rental income alongside the operating businesses.

Over time, this developed into a diversified portfolio of retail spaces and commercial assets, with an emphasis on quality locations, long-term ownership and sustainable rental income.

This real estate strategy became an important second pillar of the family enterprise, complementing active retail operations with asset-backed income and long-term capital appreciation.

05 August 2024

Strengthening the Ludhiana Retail Platform

On 5 August 2024, another significant milestone was achieved with the strengthening of the Ludhiana jewellery business through a purpose-built retail property at Link Road, Model Town, Ludhiana.

The property provides approximately 11,000 sq. ft. of retail area and represents the evolution of a business that had moved from a traditional cloth shop to wholesale textiles, organised fashion retail, premium jewellery retail and long-term commercial real estate ownership.

Family Continuity

Strength Through Family Participation

Throughout this journey, one of the greatest strengths of the business has been active family participation.

Hobby Katari, wife of S. Harcharn Singh Katari, has been an important part of the family’s strength and continuity.

The legacy is now being carried forward with the participation of Manpreet Katari, wife of Kamal Deep Singh Katari, continuing the same family-enterprise philosophy into the next generation.
